Duke of Edinburgh’s Award 50th Anniversary

This year is a very exciting year for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award as it marks its 50th anniversary in Australia.

To celebrate this monumental milestone, the Office for Youth will be hosting a state-wide event that will provide Award participants with the opportunity to complete an adventurous journey in a uniquely South Australian way – to collectively walk the 1,200km Heysen Trail.

Licensed Operators, independent participants and Gold Award Holders are invited to complete an adventurous journey by hiking a designated section of the Heysen Trail between May and November 2012.  Click here to access Express of Interest forms.

Geared 2 Drive: Help disadvantaged youth learn to drive
  • Do you have an interest in helping young people achieve?
  • Do you enjoy working with young people and helping them develop new skills?
  • Are you able to commit four hours of your time on a weekly basis?
  • Have you held a full, non-probationary car licence for the past two years and have a good understanding of Australian road rules and road safety?
‘Geared 2 Drive’, the Service to Youth Council Inc (SYC) learner driver mentor program, is desperately seeking volunteers to help disadvantaged youth learn to drive.
Volunteers are urgently needed to work with disadvantaged young South Australians over a six month period, acting as a supervising driver (vehicles supplied by SYC) to help them achieve the 75 supervised driving hours required to achieve a provisional licence.
A licence is an important part of a young person’s life and opens up an array of opportunities to access employment, education, accommodation and community support.
This is a pilot program and its success is heavily reliant on the efforts of volunteers who act as supervising mentors to SYC’s learner drivers.
SYC volunteers receive ongoing training and are supported by volunteer support staff throughout the program.
Register now! You can register your interest or find out more by contacting Michael Wall at SYC on (08) 8405 8540 or email mwall@syc.net.au.
This program is proudly supported by the Government of South Australia, through the Office for Youth, and Smiths Holdens.
