Mohammad Al-Khafaji 

   


Mohammad Al-Khafaji is 22 years old and is near completing his Bachelor of Software Engineering degree at the University of Adelaide. He is passionate about social justice, human rights and multiculturalism. He works with other talented and similarly driven individuals and organisations to address issues that might disregard these values in our communities. 

Mohammad enjoys meeting young change makers and hearing their stories of compassion and care for others. He is open to new ideas and suggestions to make the MYC more efficient and productive. 

Mohammad enjoys long walks on the beach, hiking on weekends and keeps fit whilst training in Brazilian Jujitsu. Mahatma Ghandi inspires Mohammad, especially his infamous saying "be the change you want to see in the world".

Cassandra Attwood

    



My name is Cassandra Attwood. I am passionate about health and education and I am looking forward to making a difference on the Minister's Youth Council.

I have travelled extensively and am an alumni of the international organisation People to People. I hope that this will help me bring a balanced view to the Council.

I have had articles published in publications such as the National Student Leaders Magazine.

Catherine Whitington


Catherine grew up in the country and moved to Adelaide in order to study Psychology and Neurological Sciences at university.

Catherine is currently working in the disability and mental health sector; alongside young people to gain more out of their education and achieve their goals for the future.

Catherine is extremely passionate about social inclusion and human rights and is very interested in youth services from a migrant and refugee perspective.

At home, Catherine and her husband are the proud parents of a beautiful 4 year old boy, Charlie.

Emma Gillett


Emma Gillett is currently studying a Masters of Social Work and works as a youth peer educator for Shine SA.

Her other interests are volunteering, arts, literature and music.

Henry de Cure


My name is Henry de Cure and I am 18 years old. I was born with Cerebral Palsy, which prevents me from walking without assistance.

I attended William Light R-12 school for my entire schooling life. I am now completing a 2nd year of  Year 12 at the Open Access College and the Marden Senior College. I am currently studying Economics, Maths Apps and Work Place Practices.

I am an International Wheelchair Tennis player and being a member of the Australian Junior Team that has competed at the International Tennis Federation World Team Cup, medalling in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Kye Hanley


My name is Kye Hanley. I am currently 18 years old and studying Year 12 part time.

For the past several years, I have been a member of both the Whyalla Youth Council and the Plaza Youth Centre’s AYAC and Youth Say committees.

Over this last year and a half, I have joined a few other things such as the Minister’s Youth Council, the St. John Ambulance, the Plaza Youth Board of Management and also the Whyalla Cub Scout Group as a registered team leader.

Since June 2011, I have been known as the Weekend Photographer for the Whyalla News.

Lauren Kimm


Lauren is a 23 year old from the Playford Region with a passion for training. She lives in her recently purchased new home with her husband and young daughter. Lauren works in the management of Apprentices and Trainees. 

As an avid ambassador for Vocational Education and Training, Lauren is continually spreading the word about the benefits of upskilling and undertaking Australian Apprenticeships.

Lauren joins the Council with a vision to help young people learn about their training options and have equity of access to Vocational Education and Training.

Lulu Hensman


My name is Lulu, I'm 13 years old and I'm very interested in helping the environment and the people in it.

I don’t think humans are the only cause of global warming but there is obviously a need for us to change the way we are living.

I also do sports aerobics which is a really competitive sport, meaning that I understand the importance of body image and having good health cover in case there is an injury during a competition.

Noby Leong


Noby Leong has a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Chemistry. He has previously worked in the USA as a carer for children and adults with special needs and volunteered in Thailand with the Wildlife Animal Rescue Foundation. Noby has served on various environmental councils across Adelaide, including as an observer on the Premier’s Climate Change Council.

He currently volunteers with the Royal Institute of Australia and is co-founder and editor of the online publication www.othersideofscience.com

Paul Fitzgerald


I grew up on the west coast of South Australia in the small rural wheat and sheep farming community of Kimba, about 600 km west of Adelaide.

When I was 13, I moved to boarding school in Adelaide for my secondary education and continued to university completing a Bachelor of Science degree.

Following this, I moved to Sweden to study a Masters of Medical Biosciences which I am due to complete soon.

I have also started a second degree in Developmental Studies. I believe in encouraging the involvement of youth in all aspects of society and allowing their ideas to be heard.

Sarah Elsayed


I’m Sarah, young, free and determined. I’m currently studying for a Bachelor of Law degree at the University of South Australia and working part time at Telstra. 

As of July 2011, I can now say, I’m a proud member of the Minister’s Youth Council. I have a particular interest in the transitional process of refugees and the impact it has on both the individuals who seek refuge in overseas countries and the ongoing effects it has on their children.

I think it is important for us all to accept each other for who we are and embrace our culture, personality and differences.

Thomas Manning


Thom is currently studying for a Bachelor of Science (Physiology / Pharmachology) degree at the University of Adelaide and lives independently with his partner.

Thom was appointed by the Executive Cabinet to the Council for the Care of Children and is the current Youth Governor of SA in the Youth Parliament program.

In his spare time, Thom enjoys working as a Parliamentary Advisor or walking, what seems a never tiring Beagle - named Kirby. Thom loves running, swimming and playing the odd game of chess and is loving his time on the MYC.
