South Australian Vulnerable Youth Framework
For young people the period between 12 and 25 is a time of rapid change and development, physically, mentally and emotionally. While most young people navigate this period successfully, some young people do experience significant challenges which can have long term impacts. The South Australian Government is committed to the development of a Vulnerable Youth Strategy to identify and implement strategies that support prevention and early intervention for all young people, with a specific focus on vulnerable young people.
The South Australian Government has commenced work on developing a Vulnerable Youth Framework for South Australia that is strengths based and aims to build resilience.
The South Australian Vulnerable Youth Framework will underpin policy developments related to young South Australians who experience vulnerability or who are at risk of becoming vulnerable. It will identify, and provide guidance for addressing, the systemic issues that contribute to young people becoming vulnerable. It is intended that it will become a mechanism by which efforts can be concentrated across government to create consistent responses and coordinated approaches.
To progress the development of the South Australian Vulnerable Youth Framework, a consultation paper was developed. Consultations were held from June to September 2012. The findings of the consultations have been collated and work has begun on drafting the Framework.
