How can I get involved?
Your school or host organisation may already be running an active8 program so ask a teacher or staff member. If they have not heard of active8 , get them to call any person from the active8 Team. Check out the contact list or follow the side bar link.
A new active8 funding round will commence in 2009. Applications will be open mid 2008, and will be available on this site.
What activities can I do?
There is a broad range of activities you can get involved in, depending on which service provider is matched with your host organisation. There is everything from camping, hiking, abseiling and conservation to drama, media and production skills in the arts. Each Service Provider offers a variety of opportunities and experiences.
Who else is involved?
In 2004/2005 there are over 1,600 young people in 76 different programs. Programs spread across the whole of South Australia from Mount Gambier in the South East to Coober Pedy in the far North and Ceduna in the West. It does not matter where you are - active8 is for you!
Does active8 run all year?
Yes, active8 programs start January and can run during the day or evening, on weekdays and weekends. Programs run for a year or 2 years all year round.
Is there any cost involved?
No. Being an active8 participant is free. Your school or host organisation receives funding to run activities.
What do the participants say about the program?
Young people love active8 ! There are plenty of activities to do, both indoor and outdoor, you can try things you have not have done before like rock climbing and you may even get it to count towards your school results.
Do I have to wear a uniform?
Participants can wear identifiable clothing. Young people in active8 programs have designed polo shirts, windcheaters and t-shirts to wear while doing their active8 activities and at formal school presentations. It is a requirement that young people are consulted in determining what they wear.
Does this count toward my studies?
