OfY Youth Parliament 2008

Youth Parliament is a project of the YMCA of South Australia, for which the Office for Youth is the naming rights sponsor. The Youth Parliament program provides a unique forum for young people aged 16-25 to express their views, develop skills and learn about our parliamentary system.

A taskforce of past participants coordinates all facets of the program, with input from the YMCA and the Office for Youth.

This year's Youth Parliament sat from Monday 29 September to Friday 3 October 2008.

The Government of South Australia acknowledges the value of this program and is proud to be a sponsor. As stated by the Minister for Youth, the Hon Paul Caica:

“Youth Parliament empowers our young people by giving them a chance to voice their opinions and concerns on matters of importance to them and in the process, make a positive contribution to the future of our state.

Youth Parliament operates exactly like State Parliament, with members formally debating bills in the South Australian Parliamentary chambers. It’s a serious undertaking but members also have a lot of fun and learn plenty of new skills in the process”.
